Wings, Ailerons & Wing Attach
3/23/13 Ok, enough mucking around with little side projects. Time to get focused back on the important stuff. I started taking my flying lessons and thought it was good symmetry that while I am earning my wings I should build my wings at the same time. So I started in with my chapter 19. Rick Irwin graciously allowed me to use his jigs, that saved me a bit of effort.
Here I am levelling it out. Carpenters square clamped on one way with digital level the other way to make sure everything is strait and level. Apply Bondo Liberally. After I finished the big part of chapter 18 I chopped about a foot off of the height of my work bench. I don't want to stand on a stool everytime I do something on the wings so my bench is only about 28 Inches tall now.
I don't necessarily like to crow about my "oaf stories" but here's one that may turn out alright. I decided awhile back my VOR antenna would be on my main wings. When I did my left wing I did the bottom skin and then realized I had neglected to put the antenna under the skin. So on my left wing the VOR antenna is on the top leading edge of the wing. on my right wing I will put it where it belongs on the bottom leading edge. Honestly I don't thing it will make a tiny bit of difference, but it shows what inattention will do to your build. Here's the right wing ready for the bottom spar tape layup.
